A predictable thriller
DIRECTOR: Sailesh Kolanu
CAST: Rajkunar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Jatin Goswami, Shilpa Shukla
Rajkumar Rao’s new movie, HIT: The First Case made it to Netflix. It is a Hindi language action thriller, a remake of a Telugu film, directed by Sailesh Kolanu. It is claimed to be a remake of a film. The movie is based on a middle-aged man who is a cop, Vikram Jaisingh. He is on a mission to solve a case of a missing girl.
The movie seems really intriguing with the name and of course such brilliant actors like Rajkumar Rao and Sanya Malhotra in it. The starting scenes of the movie give you a thrilling experience. The audience would start solving the mystery, the riddles, and the mind games. Halfway through the film, everything in the movie becomes entangled. The plot of the movie feels forced. The story is stretched unnecessarily and becomes boring right after the interval.
The starting scenes look promising. With all the past traumas of Vikram, one wants to know what has happened to him. The movie is based on a case that Vikram solves. On the other side, he is coping up with his past trauma. The film’s direction could have been much better. The movie looks as complicated as Vikram’s life. It feels like some C.I.D episode is playing with different characters. No doubt, there was a time when everyone loved C.I.D, the modern crime and thriller genre is heavily loaded with surprises. This movie does not surprise the audience.
The music of the film is soothing. Arijit Singh’s magical voice is unbeatable. However, songs don’t define such movies. They are a bonus. The cinematography and dialogue writing is okay. Any thriller movie in the industry would have a few common basic elements. HIT is a baseline thriller movie. The performance of all the actors is alright. The end of the movie is extremely foreseeable. If this movie had been released 10 years ago, it might have worked. Today, the audience and their choices are more adventurous. You either give them a predictable story but marvelous experience or give them an unpredictable story that throughout the film they do not feel sank.
Rajkumar Rao has given a lot of mixed films lately. There is White Tiger on one side and Shimla Mirchi on the other. One is critically loved and the other is met with a negative response respectively. The drawback here is the films that don’t do well, HIT is one of them. It is a film Rajkumar Rao would do following the 2-3 genres he is currently experimenting with.
Overall, the film is only worth watching for Rajkumar Rao, especially if you are his fan. Other than that, there is no such interesting segment. The relevance to the title’s part, ‘The First Case’ can only be understood if one watches the whole film. Adding to that, it is a mediocre thriller film. It disappoints the audience with its cliche storyline and bits.
