Seema Pahwa’s directorial debut with Ramprasad ki Tehrvi is a must-watch. We all know Seema Pahwa from her remarkable roles as the nosy mother in Shubh Mangal Savdhan and the powerful politician in the Netflix series Jamtara. Just like her acting, her direction is lifelike and wholehearted. The 2019 film didn’t make it up to the list of popular flicks with its box office collection limited to Rs 0.27 crores. Though it is a 7.5 stars IMDb-rated movie.
Truthful Theme:
Ramprasad ki Tehrvi is an intense domestic drama. The director has tried to put a humorous effect on the writing. The movie is about a middle-class family reunion after the death of the head of the family- Ramprasad Bhargava. His 4 sons and two daughters with their respective families come to their native home. The plot concentrates on a melancholic setting and happenings after death in a family. The storyline of the film is straightforward and precise. The crosswires of tangible issues between relationships are illustrated in a meticulous manner. Amidst the sadness of the movie, some scenes will make you feel overwhelmed and some will make you smile. That is the beauty of realistic themes.
Stellar Performances:
Every character replicates a person we have in an Indian family. Whether they are the children who cannot understand the seriousness of a situation or the Bua Ji who is present at every function in the village whatsoever. There are some progressive characters and others remain messed up like before.
The star cast is exceptional. All the roles weigh similarly and don’t get biased at any point. Supriya Pathak as Amma and the wife of Ramprasad is outstanding. She will make you teary-eyed at least once throughout the movie. Her role is influential as the typical widow who is going through pain the most but also keeping up with society. The scenes where she has to repeat the cause of death to relatives and where she feels lonely even with the whole family around are excellent narrations of real-life events. Manoj Pahwa as Gajraj- the eldest and ultimately the most responsible son, Vikrant Massey as the flirty cousin, Parambrata Chattopadhyay as Nishant-the youngest son, Konkona Sen Sharma as Nishant’s wife- the modern bahu unaware of the joint family customs are simply amazing. Their performances are effortless. Ninad Kamat, Vinay Pathak, Deepika Amin, Sadiya Siddiqui, and the list doesn’t end with the extremely talented star cast. A movie with hand-picked theatre artists would not let you down. All the characters complement each other and together fulfill Seema Pahwa’s vision for the film.
Elements in line:
Movies like Ramprasad ki Tehrvi highly depend on their dialogue writing. A movie without the big names in Bollywood has surprised people lately. Their most momentous elements are the realistic themes and script. The actual emotions in the movie lie beneath the conversations. The dialogues and expressions have done justice to the story. The feeling of loss is demonstrated in the most natural way possible. The music is good in the context of the movie. It is a trivial element of the film. The use of earthly colors across the screen enriches the quality of the film. The cinematography lives up to the standards of the story.
Every element is in line with the real-life situation that the director wants to address. It bonds with the audience on the reality of the tragedy of loss. Even with fair comic pinches, the profoundness of the subject doesn’t fade away.
Overall, the movie prepares you for a crucial event in life. It teaches you the odds of such events and how we cannot escape reality sometimes. Seema Pahwa is the reason many people have watched the film and loved it. Ramprasad ki Tehrvi reminds you of the dramas that people watched in theatres long ago. It is a family-friendly and heartwarming movie.
